The New High Potential Individual Visa (HPI)
Live and Work in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom government has opened a new HPI visa route for those who can show high potential for achievement based on their academic excellence.
How Can I Qualify For The High Potential Individual Visa?
If granted, the visa allows a person to come to the United Kingdom for two years if they have a Masters’ or Bachelors’ degree, or for three years if they have a PhD or similar doctoral qualification.
To be eligible for a High Potential Individual (HPI) Visa, you must have been awarded a qualification by an eligible university and meet the following criteria:
- The new visa is open to people of any nationality over the age of 18 who have graduated from an elite university outside the United Kingdom since 2016.
- To qualify as elite, the university must have been regarded as being amongst the world’s top 50 education establishments at the time the visa applicant graduated.
You do not need an offer of a job before travelling and you can seek employment in almost any field. You can also be self-employed and start your own business. You can do voluntary work, and you can study.
You may also bring your immediate family with you (spouse/partner/children under 18).
The new visa does not itself lead to permanent settled status – but you will be eligible to switch into a category leading to such status if that is what you wish to do.
This visa offers a great opportunity for those with the right talent and ambition. At Cromwell Wilkes we will give you all the legal and practical support you need to make your case a success.
