How does the Tier One system work?
Tier 1 of the Points Based System offers access to the United Kingdom’s premium visas for overseas investors and businesspeople. The main options are:
Tier 1 (Investor)
This is for a person who has a minimum of £2,000,000 to invest in UK government bonds or share capital. You can work or study in this country while your money is invested, and you can bring your family with you. You could be able to settle here within five years, or even less if you invest more money. There is no English language requirement, but you must be able to show that you are a genuine investor and be of good character.
Tier 1 (Entrepreneur)
For those who have a minimum of £200,000 to start a new business in the United Kingdom, or invest in an existing business. You must then have a direct role in running the business and cannot work elsewhere. You will need to be able to pass an English language exam to level B1 and you can bring your direct family with you. You also need to show you have enough money to maintain you and your family while you are living here. You could be able to settle in the United Kingdom within five years.
